After getting to know my classmates better in PE class, I successfully joined our school's football varsity and started to participate in the Beijing International High School competition called "Bei Gao Cup". As time passed, after daily physical education classes, our school varsity began to take shape, and everyone was full of confidence in this competition.
April 5, 2024 is the first game of the Beigao Cup and also the first game after I joined the school varsity, against W* School. In this game, I played as a CAM. Before the game, I was full of confidence that I could improve the offensive firepower of our school team. At the beginning of the game, the opponent's frontcourt pressure was much more than I thought. Their tall and strong bodies made me unable to adapt to the rhythm of the game quickly. The goal made me calm down quickly and reflect on my state. Later, I gradually found the rhythm of the game and the familiar feeling of touching the ball. After the defeat in the Beigao Cup, our team adjusted our frustrated mentality in time. This may also be due to the fact that we study and play together at school every day, which has given us an extremely solid relationship and strong adjustment ability.
After a while, we also participated in some friendly matches. The strength of our school team is constantly improving. We are preparing to participate in another competition, a competition between the international departments of public schools organized by students from another school. Starting from October 13, 2024, although our school team had a difficult process, we won 4 points in the first two group matches against School A and School B from Haidian district with one draw and one win. In the last group match against No.101 School, we can qualify, but our team rushed from Jinzhan district to the side of Yuanmingyuan, and we were not here for a draw. It is worth mentioning that as the games progressed one by one, I gradually transformed from the winger and center forward I was good at at the beginning to a midfielder and then a defensive midfielder to make up for the lack of defensive strength of our school team. At the beginning of the game, our team showed its determination to win. In the first few minutes, the attack bombarded the opponent and scored a goal. Even if the opponent quickly equalized the score, we still relied on a penalty kick and two consecutive goals to widen the gap in the game. By the last 10 minutes, almost everyone on the field had cramps, but we still defended and ran hard, treating this game as a final and holding on until the end of the game, successfully defeating this traditional powerhouse 4:2.
From the beginning of being the "weakest team among weak teams" to the stage where we can compete with strong teams, I think this journey has shocked me every time when I thought of it. I have gained a lot from working hard and growing together with my classmates and the school varsity. Every game has strengthened my relationship with my classmates, improved my skills, and also improved my perseverance and some other spiritual qualities.
