In spite of the youngest member of the BAID soccer varsity, I felt proud wearing the iconic number 10 jersey, a symbol of leadership and creativity on the field. However, my excitement was tempered by the effects of a recent illness that left my body still in the process of recovery.
From the beginning of the 7-a-side match, the defensive duties left me feeling stressed. It was like my body, weakened by illness, struggled to keep pace with the demands of the game. However, as the match progressed, a surge of determination comes to me, urging me to push beyond my physical limitations.
In a pivotal moment, during a corner kick, I exerted all my remaining strength to deliver a precise cross to the far post, where my teammate's well-timed header found the back of the net, offering us a precious lead of 1-0. However, our opponents, capitalizing on their physical strength and height advantage, soon turned the tide against us, leaving us trailing 1-2.
Yet, in the dying moments of the match, with grit and determination, we united together. With a stroke of brilliance, an executed free-kick found its mark, leveling the score to 2-2, rescuing a hard-fought draw.
In reflection, while the match may have tested my physical limits and challenged my confidence, it also served as a testament to the resilience and camaraderie of our team. It was a memorable debut, marking the beginning of an exhilarating journey with the BAID football team.
